| Press Release ‹‹ News Index January 21, 2008 KANE FOUNDATION AWARDS CCSE $90,000 The Catholic Coalition for Special Education, Inc. (CCSE) based in Kensington, Md., is honored to announce that the Eugene I. Kane Foundation, Inc. has awarded CCSE $90,000. The funds will be directed to teacher salaries. “The Catholic Coalition and the special education teachers deserve special recognition for the work they do every day to bring out the best in young students with developmental disabilities,” said Dennis O. Kane, director/vice president of the Kane Foundation. “It is with much happiness that we make this award to CCSE.” CCSE teachers are part of a burgeoning Catholic special education network devoted to helping teachers teach teachers about best practices for educating students with special needs. “The generous grant from the Kane Foundation is the fuel we need to move toward allowing all our students with disabilities to meet their potential in their neighborhood Catholic school,” said Francesca Pellegrino, president and founder of CCSE. “We all look forward to seeing this network of teachers grow professionally as they strive to meet the needs of our students.” While Catholic schools are tremendously successful in fulfilling their mission despite limited resources, CCSE acknowledges that the schools do not have sufficient funds to provide special education instruction to students with developmental disabilities. CCSE was created to help shoulder this financial and administrative burden. The goal is to provide financial and technical assistance to Catholic schools to enable them to provide an appropriate Catholic school education for students with disabilities who face numerous challenges, thus relieving part of the pressure bourn by parents who perpetually struggle with the financial, spiritual and educational needs of all their children. The Kane grant will help schools maintain teachers with expertise in the field and who possess a strong commitment to ensuring that all children meet success in their local Catholic school. CCSE is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 independent non-profit organization established in 2004 to advance, support and promote the implementation of special education services in Catholic schools in Maryland and Washington, DC by awarding grants and providing technical assistance to Catholic schools. To advance its mission CCSE relies on donations from individuals and local businesses, as well as pro-bono services.
