Welcome
The mission of the Catholic Coalition for Special
Education is to ensure that children with special needs are able to
attend, and receive an appropriate education in their local Catholic
elementary schools and high schools. In the words of Pope Benedict XVI
“no child should be denied his or her right to an education in
faith, which in turn nurtures the soul of a nation.” CCSE provides
grants and technical assistance to help Catholic schools in Washington,
D.C. and Maryland achieve this goal.

Who We Are
Established in 2004, the Catholic Coalition for Special Education, Inc.
(CCSE) raises funds to support the implementation of special education
instruction and programs in Catholic Schools in Washington, D.C. and
Maryland. CCSE is organized as a religious, charitable, educational
non-profit corporation exempt from Federal income tax under section
501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. All contributions are tax deductible
to the full extent allowed by law.
What we do
CCSE is the only organization in the Washington metropolitan area to
provide an affordable non-public option for families seeking a Catholic
education for their child with special needs. We support both existing
programs and the establishment of new programs. The Professional Advisory
Board works with schools to implement appropriate, cost-effective programs
thereby removing some of the burden from the school administration.
This allows children with special needs to grow spiritually and academically.
CCSE is guided by the philosophy that the Catholic school is a safe,
loving place where all are welcome. CCSE encourages communities to embrace
this philosophy by raising disabilities awareness and promoting community
participation by awarding grants and providing technical assistance
to schools.
Who we serve
Children and youth K-12, with intellectual and physical disabilities
and with special learning needs who are or who wish to be enrolled in
Catholic schools in Washington, DC and Maryland.
